The reverberation time of a site is defined as the time required for the level of an audio signal, whose emission is interrupted, falling 60 dB with respect to the original level. Depending on the type of places, the reverberation time can vary from tenths of a second (enclosures acoustically "dead") and several seconds (too local "living"). For playback of speech with high intelligibility is necessary to choose a short reverberation time, for music playback is preferred reverberation time increased, therefore the successive reflections enrich the tonality of the sound. For this reason special devices are used which are discussed below (echoes and reverbs) with which you try to give the sound of the reverb necessary to obtain in local poor acoustics of a quality equivalent to that which would be achieved in more suitable places.
