THE
PREAMPLIFIER AND POWER AMPLIFIER
The
tasks assigned to the preamplifier, also called control console or control amplifier
are multiple and understand from selecting the sources of sound that we want to
listen to select the level of volume that is most pleasurable to our ears, going
through the modification, adequacy and sometimes mixing of the signals that
come from the equipment connected to it. The preamp is that part of the chain
that we have direct access through controls and buttons. The volume and tone,
balance controls, filters, the recording controls, the selection buttons, the
different phono inputs, radio or microphone, the connections for stereo decks,
etc., everything arrives and is controlled by the preamp, properly modifying
the signals that arrive, so that our ears hear what, in origin was recorded on
disk or was transmitted by radio.
The
task of the power amplifier is to accept very weak electrical signals in its
input. The energy of these signals is so small that the power amplifier has to
be increased and multiplied by a factor that is often 1 million, or even
higher, so that it can excite the loudspeaker set properly. This mission is
carried out by the power amplifier so that it does not change the quality of
the input signal and that it only raises the power to the required level.
